Downtown Phoenix becomes expansive wi-fi hotspot during NCAA Women’s Final Four

PHOENIX —Free Wi-Fi is coming to downtown Phoenix this week as the city braces for massive crowds drawn by the NCAA Women’s Final Four and the Arizona Diamondbacks’ series against the Atlanta Braves.

More than 2,500 hotspots, provided for free by Cox Communications, will be available throughout downtown and surrounding areas, letting fans pull up digital tickets, navigate venues and hail rideshares.

User can connect by selecting the “FreeCoxWifi” network on their devices.

The Women’s Final Four, the first ever held in Phoenix, tips off Friday with national semifinal games at 4 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. MST. The national championship follows Sunday at 12:30 p.m. MST on ABC. All games will be played at Mortgage Matchup Center.

The weekend activities stretch well beyond the court.

Tourney Town, a free fan festival at the Phoenix Convention Center, runs Thursday through Sunday with athlete and celebrity appearances, games, giveaways and merchandise.

Four It All Fest also runs Thursday through Sunday, bringing a block-party atmosphere to Third Street.

On Saturday morning, thousands of young fans are expected to join the Women’s Final Four Bounce, a dribbling parade through downtown, with free basketballs and T-shirts for the first 3,000 registered participants 18 and under.
