Costco’s latest move in the Valley is closer to fruition.

The popular wholesaler’s proposed Costco Business Center in Chandler cleared another step with the city Feb. 6, when Chandler City Council advanced the company’s initial development plan and rezoning request.

The proposed project, which is set rise on 18.57 acres at the southwest corner of Pecos and Alma School roads, is scheduled for a final vote on Feb. 20, Chandler Planning Administrator Kevin Mayo told the Business Journal. Mayo added the proposal is following the normal city approval process.

Costco’s (Nasdaq: COST) popularity makes it a bellwether for economic development — including in Buckeye where its arrival in 2023 proved to be a catalyst for further development along I-10.

The company’s latest proposed business center on Jan. 15 went before the Chandler Planning and Zoning Commission, where it received a unanimous recommendation to approve the rezoning and preliminary development plan.
