Cost of Thanksgiving dinner in Arizona slightly down from last year

PHOENIX — Arizonans looking to put a Thanksgiving dinner on the table this year will see costs go slightly down, per a recent report.

A turkey dinner with all trimmings will cost $53.17 for an Arizona family of 10 or around $5.31 a person, according to the Arizona Farm Bureau.

The cost is down 21 cents from last year where a Thanksgiving dinner cost $53.38 for a family of 10 in Arizona.

The national average cost for a Thanksgiving dinner is $55.18, which is also down from last year’s average of $58.12.

How were costs factored in report about Arizona Thanksgiving dinners?

The Arizona Farm Bureau survey factored the cost of a dinner using a shopping list that included items found in a typical Thanksgiving meal. The items included:

• Turkey
• Stuffing
• Sweet potatoes
• Rolls with butter
• Peas
• Cranberries
• Veggie tray
• Milk
• Pumpkin pie with whipped cream.

The cost of a 16-pound turkey bought in Arizona was $18.89 ($1.18 per pound), which was down $0.47 from last year’s $19.36 16-pound turkey. 

“The $0.47 decrease in price on the turkey from last year is a pleasant surprise for our holiday celebrations,” Arizona Farm Bureau Communications Director Julie Murphree said in the report. 

“This is the first time since 2020, except for 2023, that we’ve been able to report the Thanksgiving meal is down in price – a truly special report to make our holiday season that much more special.”
