Scottsdale police arrest boy who allegedly made online threat to high school

PHOENIX — A boy has been arrested by Scottsdale police after he allegedly made a threat to Coronado High School on Saturday, authorities said.

The boy allegedly wrote a one-sentence threat and sent it via direct message to a social media account belonging to the school located near Miller Road and Virginia Avenue.

Police determined the boy acted alone when making the threat and did not have the physical means to carry out the threat.

The case was investigated by detectives and patrol officers, and the boy will face criminal charges.

There will be an increased officer presence at the school on Monday, police said.

An investigation into the threat remains ongoing.

“No threat to carry out an act of violence at a school is acceptable, whether the person truly means it or not. Such threats are always investigated and will almost always result in an arrest and the suspect facing legal consequences,” Scottsdale police spokesperson Aaron Bolin said.

“We recommend that no one participate in making threats to schools or forward or share threats they see online. If a threat to a school is posted online or on social media, the best course of action is to report it immediately to law enforcement.”
