Cooling temperatures, a little rain making comeback in Phoenix area

PHOENIX – Hey, what happened? A week of sunshine in the Phoenix area came to an abrupt end Friday with gloomy skies that were expected to drop some rain in the next few days.

Meteorologist Austin Jamison with the National Weather Service in Phoenix told KTAR News 92.3 FM the skies won’t unload on the Valley, even though at least two weather systems from the west will pass through the early next week.

“We’re not looking at a whole bunch of thunderstorms or anything like that,” Jamison said.

But there will be rain, possibly by Sunday night and lasting until Wednesday. After a couple of days in the 80s that’s a bit of a downer.

The Valley has measured 2.53 inches of rain this year, about a half-inch above average.

“If you add up [the projections],” Jamison said, storm rainfall may reach a half-inch. The number could be a little higher in hilly areas.

Just two weeks ago, a record amount of rain for Feb. 21 fell (1.01 inches), it snowed in town and the temperature topped out at 47 degrees.
