PHOENIX — We hope you didn’t put the sweaters away already, Phoenix. The weather is expected to cool off in a big way this weekend.

The National Weather Service called for a high temperature of 78 degrees on Thursday. In case you were wondering, that’s about 10-12 degrees above normal and nearly a record high.

By Saturday, that high will have fallen to just 59 degrees.

The drop in temperatures is being brought on by a storm system that will move through the state. There is a 20 percent chance of showers on Thursday night, which jumps to 40 percent on Friday.

The weather service said is expecting showers, but no heavy downpours. However, it will be windy. Gusts could hit as high as 30 mph on Friday night.

Highs should remain in the 60s for the entirety of the holiday week.

It will also be getting quite chilly at night. Lows are expected to drop into the low 40s or high 30s, with the coldest night coming on Saturday. It’s expected to be just 38 degrees overnight, so maybe consider throwing an extra blanket on the bed or an extra log on the fire.
