PHOENIX — Things will be cooler this weekend in Arizona after a weather front blows in, but it will not bring a good chance for either rain or snow.

“We’re looking at high temperatures that will struggle to reach 60 degrees,” National Weather Service meteorologist Mark O’Malley said Tuesday.

O’Malley also said some parts of the Valley could see overnight temperatures dip into the low 30s.

“The outlying suburbs around Phoenix on Sunday morning and Monday morning will flirt with the freezing mark,” he said. “We’re probably not getting a widespread freeze.”

Highs in Flagstaff will drop into the 30s, while lows will hover near 20 degrees.

The system will bring some slim chances of precipitation, but not much — if any — was expected. The Phoenix area will have a 20 percent chance at rain, while Flagstaff will have a 40 percent chance of snow.

O’Malley said the state’s snowpacks were only at about 10 percent of what they should be.

“Unfortunately, it’s going to take a lot of snow for the rest of the year to even get close to average,” he said.

But Arizona has seen winters this dry before in both 2006 and 2007.

“We’re right in line with those years right now,” O’Malley said.
