PHOENIX (AP) — A federal judge overseeing a contempt of court case against Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio has set a firm date to being hearing testimony from the sheriff and his top deputies.

U.S. District Court Judge Murray Snow also ruled Friday that he would allow lawyers for the American Civil Liberties Union to question sheriff’s officials about an incident Arpaio claims involves attorney-client privilege. The ACLU is trying to show an Arpaio attorney ordered a sheriff’s captain to withhold a trove of 1,500 seized identification cards from a federal monitor.

Snow ruled that no attorney-client privilege exists.

Snow set the start of a multi-day hearing for next Thursday.

Arpaio could face fines and increased oversight of his agency for violating an order that barred his immigration patrols.
