PHOENIX — Travelers in the Flagstaff area will need to plan for commuting delays for a project that is scheduled to last through the fall.

The Arizona Department of Transportation announced they are going to start rebuilding the eastbound section of Interstate 40 on Monday.

The project is going to occur between mileposts 156 and 161. Drivers heading eastbound on I-40 toward Williams and Flagstaff will have to use one of the westbound lanes for five miles.

The construction work is a long-term fix for the winter weather damage the stretch has seen over the years.

ADOT is going to rebuild the roadway from the ground up as part of a $34 million project.

This past week, they have been building a temporary road across the median at each end of the project for eastbound drivers.
