PHOENIX — It’s called State Route 24, or the Gateway Freeway, and it’s due to be completed early next month.

Gov. Jan Brewer said it’s much more than just a freeway expansion project.

“It’s about increasing jobs through an improved transportation system,” Brewer said Tuesday. “One that allows for efficiently moving goods and services, and connects more directly to our trading partners throughout the world.”

The new freeway is estimated to be completed early next month. It will connect the San Tan Freeway and Ellsworth Road, making it easier to access Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport and other growing East Valley businesses.

Construction of the $73 million project began in March 2012.
