MCSO body scanners at ITR facility find concealed weapon on inmate
The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office found an inmate with a concealed firearm over the weekend thanks to body scanners, authorities said.

PHOENIX — The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office found an inmate with a concealed firearm over the weekend, authorities said.
MCSO scanners identified the firearm, which went undetected when the inmate passed through two prior manual searches, according to a Monday announcement.
This took place at MCSO’s main Intake, Transfer and Release (ITR) center in Phoenix on Sunday, authorities said.
“The success of the body scanner affirms that the decision to integrate this technology into jail protocols was a wise investment,” Sheriff Jerry Sheridan said in the announcement.

Earlier this year, MCSO purchased 10 LineV X-ray body scanners to deploy at six detention facilities. The first scanners went live Monday at the ITR facility.
“By detecting the hidden firearm, the scanner not only prevented a security threat but also reinforced the facility’s commitment to proactive, innovative solutions in staff and inmate safety,” Sheridan added.
He previously told KTAR News 92.3 FM that anyone caught smuggling contraband by the scanners will be charged with a class 2 felony.

I smell BS! You're telling me that this guy made it through a metal detector and 2 physical searches with (if the picture is accurate) what appears to be a.380 in his waste band?
Aren't we all glad we elected one of Joe's flunkies to be Sheriff? There must have been too much enforcing of the law and not enough lying to the media, violating civil rights and paying out 100's of millions in civil judgements for people's taste.
You're right, and per the story, he was already an inmate, so how did he get the gun, and who gave it to him?
In 2024 over half of all MCSO jail deaths were due to drug overdose. At least six overdose deaths happened in Estrella, the women's jail. This level of overdose deaths would never happen in any reasonably secure jail system. Overall, Maricopa jail deaths are far higher than any other major jail system in the US. Virtually all are totally preventable.
