A pedestrian is dead after a collision involving two SUVs and the patio of a Glendale restaurant early Friday.

PHOENIX – A pedestrian is dead after a collision involving two SUVs and the patio of a Glendale restaurant early Friday, authorities said.

The man, who hasn’t been identified, was walking in the area of 59th Avenue north of Bethany Home Road and was hit as a result of the crash, according to the Glendale Police Department.

He died of his injuries after being taken to a hospital.

Multiple callers reported the crash around 2:30 a.m.

The two SUVs were traveling south on 59th Avenue, police said. As they passed Keim Drive, one rear-ended the other before rolling onto its side and hitting a restaurant patio.

The vehicle that rolled onto its side had five occupants, all of whom were hospitalized afterward. No details about their condition were immediately available.

The driver of the other SUV was not injured and remained at the scene, police said.

Speed and impairment are suspected as factors in the crash, police said.

The investigation is ongoing.
