Christmas Light display returns to Latter-day Saints temple in Mesa

PHOENIX — The Mesa Arizona Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ Christmas light display is set to return at the end of the month.

The Mesa Arizona Temple, located near Mesa Drive and Main Street, has been decorating its gardens with lights for more than 45 years, according to a Tuesday announcement.

The lights will turn on at the temple on Friday, Nov. 28 and be there for Arizonans to visit until Dec. 30. During that time period, the temple grounds will shine from 5 to 10 p.m. each day.

What should you know about Christmas light display at Mesa Arizona Temple?

The temple’s Christmas light display is free to the public. There is also free parking available near the temple or visitors can take Valley Metro’s Light Rail System to the stop at Mesa Drive and walk from there.

It was noted that there is accessible parking for those who need it at a lot directly east of the north temple grounds on Hobson. There will be parking attendants available to help.

The 20-acres grounds will have 10 biblical vignettes throughout its olive trees, including Mary and Joseph traveling to Bethlehem, an Italian nativity scene with an elevated star and three illuminated wise men with camels.

Each vignette will have a biblical description as well as a QR code that will give visitors more information and videos.

In addition to the vignettes, the temple’s 65-foot palm trees, citrus trees, cacti, hedges, shrubs and flowerbeds will be decorated with lights as well.

On top of the Christmas light display, the Mesa Temple Visitors’ Center will host the International Nativity Exhibit, which is another free event that showcases 200 nativity scenes from around the world.

The exhibit will run concurrently with the light display and will also be open daily from 5 to 10 p.m., but have extended hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
