Grand Canyon University helping to bring new Christian movie to theaters

PHOENIX — Grand Canyon University played a critical role in bringing an upcoming Christian film to theaters, the school announced on Tuesday.

The film, “The Last Supper,” will depict the final days of Jesus’ life with his disciples.

Directed by Mauro Borrelli, the film will star Robert Knepper, James Faulkner and Jamie Ward.

When will Christian film GCU helped with come to theaters?

GCU has teamed up with Pinnacle Peak Pictures, Canyon Productions, Great American Pure Flix and executive producer Chris Tomlin to release the film across theaters in the U.S.

Canyon Productions CEO Shawn Boskie, who is also a member of GCU’s Board of Trustees, said the university’s mission aligns perfectly with the message of the Christian film.

“Our partnership with Grand Canyon University is so meaningful to me precisely because the institution’s commitment to service, faith and education mirrors the very themes of this film,” Boskie said in a Tuesday news release.

The film will hit theaters on March 14. A trailer for the movie is available online.

How is GCU involved in the Christian film?

GCU spokesperson Bob Romantic told KTAR News 92.3 FM that the film’s message is incredibly important to the faith community.

“First, we have made a significant financial investment in the movie, which helps offset the costs that have already been incurred to produce the movie but also to help promote and advertise the movie in advance of its debut in theaters,” Romantic said.

If the movie performs well at the box office, GCU would have have an opportunity to recoup that investment, he added.

“Second, we are actively promoting the movie to our vast Lope Nation network, which encompasses millions of people through our students, faculty, staff, alumni, parent groups, church partners and school partners throughout the country, and other groups connected to the university,” Romantic said.

GCU President Brian Mueller said the film shows the transformational power of faith, which he believes GCU is demonstrating through its work to revitalize parts of Phoenix. Recently, the university opened a real-time operations center to make the 27th Avenue Corridor safer.

“Through faith, we are transformed and empowered to live for Him, committing to a life that puts others before ourselves,” Mueller said. “That promotes human flourishing and is transformational to people and communities.”
