Two children were hospitalized after falling from a moving pickup truck at Lake Pleasant on Thursday, authorities said.

PEORIA — Two children were hospitalized after falling from a moving truck at Lake Pleasant.
At around 3 p.m. Thursday, the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office and Peoria Fire-Medical were alerted about an incident near the Desert Tortoise Campground.
Officials say the children were flown to a hospital in serious condition.
During an initial investigation, MCSO learned two children under the age of 10 were riding on a pickup truck on an inflatable raft when they were thrown from the back of the truck.

Unfortunately - and idiotically - it's perfectly legal under AZ law to transport humans in the bed of a pickup truck.
I'm not sure how the road in question is classified, but it is illegal for people under the age of 18 to ride unsecured in the bed of a pickup truck on public roads.
Unfortunately children do not come with an instruction manual.
