Arizona man pleads guilty to paying mother to produce child sexual exploitation material

A 31-year-old Tucson man pleaded guilty Monday to producing child pornography, federal prosecutors announced.

Shams Khan Rehman entered his plea to two counts of production of child pornography in U.S. District Court.

According to court records, the FBI launched an investigation into Rehman after Snapchat alerted the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children to multiple accounts tied to the same IP address and phone number, all of which were flagged for child sexual exploitation.

Investigators determined that Rehman communicated with individuals in other states, paying them to produce and transmit videos and images documenting the abuse of several young children. Court records indicate that Rehman was identified through digital forensic evidence, including electronic communication logs and location data from his mobile phone.

FBI Special Agents were able to confirm Rehman’s identity by comparing photos he sent to other Snapchat users, which included selfies and images taken inside his home, to his official Arizona driver’s license.

Rehman faces a maximum penalty of 30 years in federal prison. Sentencing is scheduled for Sept. 3.
