Child hospitalized after being struck by vehicle while biking to West Valley school

PHOENIX — A child riding a bicycle was hospitalized after being hit by a car in Buckeye on Wednesday morning, authorities said.

The boy, whose age was not released, is a student at Desert Sunset Elementary School in Buckeye, according to the Buckeye Police Department.

The boy was conscious after the crash, which occurred near the school in the area of Tartesso Parkway and White Tank Vista Drive before 7 a.m., police said.

First responders took him to a hospital with injuries that are not considered life-threatening.

Northbound traffic at Tartesso Parkway was temporarily restricted between White Tank Vista Drive and Amber Drive, but it reopened as of 9 a.m.

Police ruled out speed and impairment as factors in the collision.
