Chicago Cubs’ Joe Maddon does good deed for Mesa children’s hospital
Chicago Cubs manager Joe Maddon was on hand for the unveiling of two rooms at Mesa's Cardon Children's Medical Center that had been renovated thanks to a contribution from his charitable foundation.
PHOENIX — Joe Maddon’s baseball team roughed up the Arizona Diamondbacks in Phoenix on Tuesday night, but the Chicago Cubs’ manager had already performed a good deed for the Valley that day.
Maddon was on hand for the unveiling of two rooms at Mesa’s Cardon Children’s Medical Center that had been renovated thanks to a contribution from his Respect 90 charitable foundation.
The gift from Respect 90, which was established by Maddon and his wife, Jaye, in 2015, went toward sprucing up two pediatric outpatient treatment rooms.
The Maddons, who both attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony, were closely involved in redesigning the rooms, according to the Respect 90 website.
We were able to refurbish two treatment rooms, and the toy closet at Cardon Banner Children’s Medical Center, primarily through the generosity of our Cubs players…#OurGuysGetIt @Cubs @BannerHealth Respect 90 Respects You https://t.co/oCEO4Kg03i

One was made over with a jungle theme, and other was done up with, of course, a baseball design.
Cardon Children’s, a Banner Health facility, is located just a few miles from the Cubs’ spring training home at Sloan Park.
The nonprofit Respect 90 foundation supports children and families through sports, academics and community involvement in Chicago, Tampa (where Maddon managed before taking over the Cubs), Mesa and Maddon’s hometown of Hazleton, Pennsylvania.
