Chandler robbery suspect allegedly used Post-it note, kicked officer

PHOENIX – A Chandler man was arrested last week for allegedly attempting to rob a convenience store and then kicking a police officer.

Tyler Jay Davis, 32, faces charges of attempted robbery, aggravated assault of an officer and resisting arrest for the incident early Thursday morning at a QuickTrip at the corner of Arizona Avenue and Warner Road.

According to court documents, Davis entered the store with his lower face concealed by an American flag bandanna at around 1:45 a.m.

He complied when asked to uncover his face and then brought a 12-pack of beer to the counter. He also handed the clerk a handwritten orange Post-it note that said “Give me all the money + nobody gets hert [sic],” according to the probable cause statement.

He also allegedly told the clerk to give him all the money in the register.

The clerk pushed the panic button near the register, alerting the Chandler Police Department.

An officer who happened to be in the parking lot at the time made contact with the suspect in the back seat of a Lyft car.

As officers tried to detain him, Davis allegedly kicked one in the shin twice.

After officers read Davis his Miranda rights, they say he admitted to wearing the bandanna and handing over the note, but he claimed he was playing a joke.

The Post-it note and bandanna were located and entered into evidence.
