Chandler reschedules Tumbleweed Tree lighting for Monday due to weather

PHOENIX — The 66th annual Tumbleweed Tree Lighting and the Parade of Lights in Chandler was canceled Saturday due to heavy rain all throughout the Valley.

The East Valley city rescheduled the tree lighting at Dr. A.J. Chandler Park to Monday at 7:30 p.m. to keep the holiday tradition going. The parade was not rescheduled.

The Tumbleweed Tree Lighting has been rescheduled for Monday, Dec. 5 at approximately 7:30 p.m.

The parade was scheduled to kick off at 6:45 p.m. Saturday before the lighting of the 35-foot–tall tree made of nearly 1,000 tumbleweeds and covered in 1,200 LED lights, 65 pounds of glitter and 25 gallons of fire retardant.

The tree debuted in 1957.

The parade was supposed to involve festive floats, dancing elves and Santa in a firetruck on Arizona Avenue between City Hall and Chandler High School.
