PHOENIX — A Chandler police officer was allegedly injured by a motorcyclist during a traffic stop in Tempe on Saturday night, authorities said.

According to the Chandler Police Department, the officer was in Tempe as part of a task force.

The motorcyclist is facing charges of aggravated assault, unlawful flight, reckless driving, criminal speed, endangerment and resisting arrest.

Details on injured Chandler police officer

The officer attempted to make a traffic stop on a motorcycle around 11:17 p.m.

Police said that instead of stopping, the driver fled and a short time later stopped at a traffic light.

The officer then got out of his car, approached the motorcyclist and hit the kill switch on the bike.

That was when the motorcyclist swatted the officer’s hand away and a struggle began, according to police.

Back up arrived to assist the officer not long after and took the suspect into custody.

Police said that during the incident, the officer had struck his head on the ground.

He was cleared by the fire department.

What is it is with the sudden use of the word "alleged" when referring to injuries. The injury is not alleged, the injury is real, the perpetrator is the one who is alleged to be the actor. Allegedly KTAR staff got a memo, everything is now alleged.
