Chandler Police Department utilizes grant funding for traffic safety

The Chandler Police Department will utilize more than $230,000 from the Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety to fund traffic safety programs.

PHOENIX – The Chandler Police Department announced Monday it received more than $230,000 from the Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety to fund traffic safety programs.

The money will be put towards three programs that the department oversees.

The traffic section was allotted $24,070 to fund civilian motorcycle training courses. The section will also receive $40,000 to enforce Arizona’s seat belt and child safety seat laws.

An additional $40,000 will be put toward overtime for campaigns around pedestrian and bicycle safety awareness, which is built through education and enforcement.

The DUI unit will utilize $93,440 to fund officer overtime to work enforcement during certain times of the year.

An additional $35,000 will be put towards the Know Your Limit on-enforcement education program. The program is designed to educate the public about the effect of alcohol on an individual’s blood alcohol level by giving people an opportunity to blow into a portable breath test.

The money will fund programs through Sept. 30, 2021.
