Chandler Police Department streams memorial service for fallen officer

PHOENIX — The Chandler Police Department live-streamed the memorial service for the death of officer Christopher Farrar, who was killed in the line of duty on April 29.

Farrar’s memorial service took place Saturday morning at Compass Christian Church, at Alma School and Germann roads in Chandler, one day after the motorcade.

“The department is grieving like a family does,” Chandler Police Chief Sean Duggan told KTAR News 92.3 FM’s Arizona’s Morning News on Friday, hours before the funeral procession and public viewing for Farrar got underway.

Farrar was killed by a driver during a stolen car pursuit that began in Pinal County and ended at the SanTan Motorplex near Loop 202 and Val Vista Drive.

Farrar was an 18-year veteran of the force and was recently assigned to the K-9 unit.

In addition to his death, Gilbert police Officer Rico Aranda suffered a head injury.

Suspect Jonathan Altland, 25, faces charges that include murder, aggravated assault and auto theft, according to the Gilbert Police Department.

The 100 Club of Arizona, which provides financial assistance to families of first responders grievously hurt or killed in the line of duty is accepting donations in Farrar’s memory on its website.

It was the second shooting of the year involving DPS in the Valley and 18th overall by law enforcement, according to KTAR News 92.3 FM research.
