Chandler assisted living facility confirms 13 coronavirus deaths, 28 cases

PHOENIX — A Chandler assisted living facility announced Tuesday that 13 residents have died due to the coronavirus.

Pennington Gardens has also had 28 residents test positive for the virus, according to Amira T. Fahoum, education and programs leader at Compass Living — the parent company that manages the facility.

There have been 26 residents and 13 staff members who tested negative for COVID-19.

Pennington Gardens has had adequate person protective equipment during the coronavirus outbreak and has properly trained staff regarding its use, according to Fahoum.

She added that a majority of residents and staff have been tested for coronavirus, which has given the facility a better understanding of how the virus can impact their community.

“As we’ve discovered, even elders can be positive for COVID-19 and not display any symptoms,” Fahoum said.

“We continue to work to get the remaining residents and employees tested so our response can continue to be tailored with all the information at hand.”

Arizona Department of Health Services announced Tuesday morning a total of 5,251 coronavirus cases within the state and a death toll of 208.
