Chance for more rain in metro Phoenix as storm activity continues

PHOENIX — One of the stormier summer stretches in recent memory continued Sunday, as rain splattered some parts of metro Phoenix with more than an inch of rain.

Skies opened up over the Valley for a fifth time in six days. North of Surprise, 1.9 inches rain fell, National Weather Service meteorologist Chris Kuhlman said Monday.

The past several days of storms, “is a little unusual,” he told KTAR News 92.3 FM.

Forecast for the week called for possible rain at the start of the work week, with chances growing for more by the weekend.

Over the weekend, a monsoon storm caused a power outage at a Scottsdale resort. About 900 guests were evacuated from Talking Stick Resort early Saturday. At least one floor was flooded.

Storm activity extended from one end of the Valley to the other.

Fountain Hills received 1.46 inches of moisture.

Storms last week brought down power lines, uprooted trees and flooded part of a freeway in Tempe.

Earlier in the month, a storm with high winds leveled three homes in Buckeye Valley and left about a dozen others in ruins.
