Teenager arrested in connection with fatal shooting at Casa Grande house party

A 16-year-old boy was arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of an 18-year-old man at a house party in Casa Grande over the weekend, authorities announced Monday.

Authorities were called to the home near Trekell and Rodeo roads shortly before 1:30 a.m. Sunday for a call about shots fired, according to the Casa Grande Police Department.

They found Joseph Castro outside the residence suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators identified a vehicle involved in the shooting and used automated license plate readers to locate it. Officers stopped the vehicle and took the 16-year-old driver into custody.

The suspect, whose name was not released because he is a minor, was booked into the Pinal County Juvenile Detention Facility. Police forwarded the following charges for review to the Pinal County Attorney’s Office:

• First-degree murder
• Aggravated assault with a deadly weapon
• Disorderly conduct with a firearm
• Minor in possession of a firearm
• Unlawful discharge of a firearm
