PHOENIX — A man suspected of committing a carjacking in California was arrested in Buckeye last Monday, according to authorities.
Police found the suspect, 31-year-old Michael Lymon, in a QT parking lot near Miller Road and Pima Street, according to court documents.
A license plate reader alerted police that a stolen pickup truck was in the area of Miller Road and Pima Street, according to a Monday news release from the Buckeye Police Department.
He faces one count of unlawful means of transportation after his Dec. 23 arrest.
However, the Rialto Police Department in California expressed interest in extraditing him for felony vehicle theft charges, according to court documents.
Carjacking in California preceded Buckeye arrest, police say
Lymon was driving the truck he allegedly stole in California during the Buckeye arrest, police said.
After a scanner alerted them of the truck’s presence in Buckeye, officers conducted a high-risk traffic stop due to the possibility that Lymon might be armed and dangerous.
Lymon allegedly told officers he stole the truck at a Denny’s parking lot the night before, according to court documents.
He and other suspects allegedly assaulted the victim before stealing his truck, court documents said.
The victim of the carjacking in California was hospitalized after the assault, police said.
However, Lymon was alone when he was arrested in Buckeye.
No further details were made available.
