Heavy traffic expected in West Valley for prime-time Arizona Cardinals game

PHOENIX — With the Arizona Cardinals hosting a prime-time game on Monday, afternoon rush hour traffic will be extra heavy in the West Valley.

The “Monday Night Football” game against the Los Angeles Chargers kicks off at 6 p.m. at State Farm Stadium in Glendale.

As a result, commuters in the area should expect delays on westbound Interstate 10 and both directions of the Loop 101 Agua Fria Freeway in the afternoon and evening, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

Fans are encouraged to arrive early to avoid getting stuck in rush-hour traffic. The stadium parking lots open at 2 p.m.

Those traveling to the game from the East Valley should consider using the westbound and northbound Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway to avoid the usual rush-hour backups on I-10 through the downtown Phoenix area.

Meanwhile, the Loop 101 off-ramps at Cardinals Way and Maryland Avenue near the stadium will be closed from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. to help with traffic flow.

Drivers should also be prepared for heavy freeway traffic in the area after the game, which is expected to end around 9 p.m.
