3 hospitalized after central Phoenix hotel evacuated due to carbon monoxide leak

PHOENIX — Three people were hospitalized Friday as a precaution after a hotel in central Phoenix was evacuated due to a carbon monoxide leak, authorities said.

According to the Phoenix Fire Department, its hazardous materials teams responded to a hotel near Central Avenue and Thomas Road around 4:30 p.m. for reports of a possible carbon monoxide leak.

When crews arrived at the hotel, they identified positive readings on multiple floors of the building using monitoring equipment.

An evacuation was immediately initiated and firefighters shut down building systems to mitigate the leak, according to Phoenix Fire Captain Mike Johnson.

During the incident, the Arizona Department of Transportation indicated that Thomas Road was closed between Central Avenue and Second Street.

Fire crews worked with hotel staff to help guests retrieve belongings and secure accommodations for the night before turning the scene back over to hotel management.
