18-year-old drowns after trying to swim across Canyon Lake cove

An 18-year-old seen trying to swim across a cove at Canyon Lake drowned on Friday, according to the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office.

An 18-year-old man drowned at Canyon Lake northeast of the Valley on Friday after he was seen struggling to swim across a cove, authorities said.

Jaysyn Robles was located underwater by a Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) Dive Team after Lake Patrol deputies responded to the incident near the Boulder recreation site around 12:45 p.m. on Friday.

Nearby observers who saw Robles struggling attempted to rescue him themselves but were unsuccessful, according to MCSO.

Authorities did not see indications of foul play.
