Amber Alert suspect killed in California may have been Arizona-bound

PHOENIX – A California murder suspect might have been heading to Arizona with his abducted daughter before deputies killed him in a shootout Tuesday, authorities said.

The California Highway Patrol activated an Amber Alert on Monday for Anthony Graziano, who allegedly abducted 15-year-old Savannah Graziano after a fatal domestic violence shooting in Fontana.

Before the Amber Alert was canceled Tuesday, the Arizona Department of Public Safety announced that the suspect possibly was driving to Ash Fork, a Yavapai County community off Interstate 40 between Kingman and Flagstaff.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department reported receiving a 911 call about the suspect’s vehicle being spotted in Barstow on Tuesday, after DPS said he could be on his way to Arizona.

Deputies pursued him and a shootout ensued, the sheriff’s department said. The suspect’s vehicle was disabled in Hesperia, about 40 miles south of Barstow. Graziano was shot and killed, and the passenger also was hit and required hospitalization.

Savannah Graziano was killed amid a shootout with law enforcement Tuesday night on a highway in California’s high desert, authorities said.

Graziano’s path indicates he may have been driving toward Ash Fork. Barstow, where he was spotted, is about 70 miles northeast of Fontana on I-15. Once in Barstow, I-15 connects with I-40, which is the fastest way to Arizona from San Bernardino County.
