PHOENIX – A fight on a party bus led to gunfire that seriously wounded a bystander in Chandler over the weekend, authorities said.

Police responded to multiple calls about shots fired around 4 a.m. Sunday on Chandler Boulevard west of Arizona Avenue, the Chandler Police Department said Wednesday in a press release.

Officers found a man, Victor Navarro, with multiple gunshot wounds. Court documents say Navarro was taken to a hospital to undergo emergency surgery for internal injuries and is expected to survive.

Investigators learned that a party bus was dropping off a group of people when a fight broke out between two groups that were on the bus. Shots were fired during the altercation, police said.

Police said Navarro was at home and heard the disturbance. He went outside to see what was happening when he was “struck by random gunfire,” according to the release. He was not involved in the altercation, according to court documents.

Through witness interviews, detectives found cause to arrest 19-year-old Cameron Booker for the shooting.

The Chicago resident has no ties to Arizona, according to court documents, and was visiting the Phoenix area with friends to celebrate his birthday.

Police arrested Booker in north Scottsdale around 10:30 p.m. Sunday and booked him into county jail on a charge of aggravated assault with serious physical injury.
