PHOENIX — The weekend is almost here and with that comes more closures to Interstate 10 and the other Valley freeways.
The I-10 will be closed between westbound 51st and 67th avenues for bridge construction at the Loop 202 interchange from 10 p.m. Friday to 8 a.m. Sunday. In addition to the closures, the on-ramps at 27th, 35th and 43rd avenues will also be shutdown as crews work.
The eastbound lanes of the I-10 between 51st and 43rd avenues will be closed from 9 p.m. Friday to 12 p.m. Sunday for construction.
In order to beat the traffic, the Arizona Department of Transportation has advised for drivers to allow extra travel time and to consider alternate routes, such as Loop 101 west of the I-17 for driving in the West Valley.
Luckily for football fans and motorists, ADOT expects the freeway to reopen Sunday morning to accommodate the Arizona Cardinals’ traffic.
Looking elsewhere in the Valley, Loop 101 eastbound will be narrowed to two lanes overnight from State Route 51 to Tatum Boulevard from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Saturday for freeway lighting maintenance. Motorists should drive with caution and be prepared to slow down when approaching the work zone.
State Route 143 will be narrowed from Washington Street to McDowell Road from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday through Thursday for pavement improvements. ADOT suggests taking the I-10 and Loop 202 as alternative routes to avoid any delays.
Eastbound Grand Avenue will be under restrictions on Sunday. From 4 a.m. to 6 p.m., bridge work will be underway, but 67th Avenue and Northern Avenue will stay open. Grand avenue will also be closed intermittently near Center street from 4 a.m. to 12 p.m. Sunday for overhead utility line work.
Closures are expected to last up to 20 minutes.
