A boy died Wednesday from injuries he sustained jumping off London Bridge in Lake Havasu City, authorities said.
Officers were called to the bridge around 8:52 a.m. Tuesday after witnesses reported seeing a boy jump, go underwater and resurface briefly before going under again, according to the Lake Havasu City Police Department.
Police and fire crews immediately began searching the shoreline and surrounding waters as bystanders provided boats to support first responders’ search-and-rescue efforts.
A firefighter began an underwater search using lakeshore rescue equipment and found the boy unresponsive around 9:12 a.m., according to authorities.
Crews worked together to pull the boy from the water and onto a boat then began life-saving measures and emergency care, police said.
He was taken to Havasu Regional Medical Center in critical condition before being transported Tuesday afternoon by air to Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas, where he died Wednesday morning.
