4-year-old boy dead after being hit by car while walking in crosswalk in central Phoenix

PHOENIX — A 4-year-old boy is dead after both he and his mother were hit by a car on Monday evening in central Phoenix.

The Phoenix Police Department said officers were called to the area of 36th Street and McDowell Road for reports of a vehicle collision involving a juvenile pedestrian around 8 p.m.

When police arrived on the scene, they discovered a boy, identified on Wednesday as 4-year-old Miguel Dominguez, and his mother had been struck by a car.

Dominguez was taken to a hospital in critical condition and later died from his injuries.

The department’s initial investigation showed that Dominguez was walking just ahead of his mother in a crosswalk at the time of the crash.

The mother was not injured.

The driver of the vehicle, only identified as an adult woman, stayed at the scene of the collision.

Impairment is not a factor in this crash, according to Phoenix police.

No other details were released.
