Border Patrol seizes nearly 270 pounds of hard drugs in Nogales in 4 days

PHOENIX — U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers in Nogales seized nearly 270 pounds of heroin, fentanyl and methamphetamine from three cars in four days.

Last Thursday, officers found nearly 90 packages in a woman’s car containing 78 pounds of meth, 18 pounds of heroin and four pounds of fentanyl, worth a total of over $768,000.

The following day, officers found 83 pounds of heroin, 42 pounds of fentanyl and four pounds of meth — worth a total of about $2.8 million — in a couple’s SUV.

On Sunday, officers removed 34 pounds of meth and six pounds of fentanyl from a man’s car, worth a total of $181,000.

Canines alerted officers to the drugs in all three of the seizures.

The first and third seizures occurred at the Dennis DeConcini Crossing and the second occurred at the Mariposa Crossing.

The four people involved were arrested and turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
