Border Patrol agents in Arizona carried an injured, unconscious man from Mexico hundreds of yards by blanket this week, getting him to an air ambulance and treatment.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials said Tucson Station agents also took turns carrying the man Tuesday after the blanket tore and became unusable.
The 30-year-old was found south of Arivaca.
A National Guard helicopter crew couldn’t find a suitable area to land close enough to the waiting party and dropped off a paramedic to check on the man.
He was airlifted to a Tucson hospital, treated and released into federal custody on immigration violations.
Arivaca is 11 miles north of the Mexican border and 35 miles northwest of the port of entry at Nogales.
