Boeing manufacture plant in Mesa receives $1.5 billion Apache contract

According to the Phoenix Business Journal, Boeing will be ‘remanufacturing’ Apache helicopters for the U.S. Army after receiving a $1.5 billion contract.

Boeing’s manufacturing plant in Mesa will take the work for the remanufacturing.

The U.S. Army plans on returning 117 Apache helicopters to regular use with modernization updates to be made by Boeing.

The end total of helicopters being worked on by the plant in Mesa could end up being 690 helicopters, with 290 Apache helicopters already in the system of Boeing’s for similar work.

In December of 2015, the Apache attack helicopter model AH-64 was in high demand from the plant in Mesa.

“We’re in all regions of the world, the number of countries are going to continue to grow, and the countries that have it come back and ask for the upgraded models,” said Mark Ballew, Boeing’s director of global sales and marketing for attack helicopter programs in Mesa.

Boeing was in negotiations with other countries and the U.S government would have the final call on whether or not certain countries could purchase a helicopter from Boeing.
