Beer festival marks half a decade of celebration in Mesa

PHOENIX – For the fifth year in a row, the Copper State Beer Festival is offering an expansive lineup of beverages and vendors at Mesa’s Riverview Park.

At least 110 premium craft beverages will be available for festival visitors on Jan. 17, according to a press release.

Festival organizers said 90 breweries and 25 wineries, cideries and spirits will be among the options. In addition, Frybread Riot, Otra Pizzeria and Smoke Somethin’ BBQ will be among the 25 local food trucks that will be parked on festival grounds.

Aside from the food and drink, more than two dozen local vendors will have setups at the festival. There will also be live music sets from local acts including DJ Hey Zeus and rock band What’s the Big Idea.

Activities like axe-throwing, flash tattoos and a silent disco will also be available for attendees.

Festivalgoers who think that they see an alpaca shouldn’t be worried if they’ve overindulged, as it was noted they will be roaming around.

Joseph Lopez and Long Tran founded the festival in 2020 after years of working together in the brewery insurance industry. The festival on its website is described as being born from “a passion for good beer, and a deep appreciation for the community that makes it all possible.”

An estimated 3,000 people came out to support the festival in 2022, with 5,000 expected for this year’s event.

The festival gates open at 11 a.m. for Platinum ticketholders (which have already sold out) and open at staggered times afterward for Gold, Silver, Copper and Designated Driver tickets, which are still available. With the exception of the latter, all visitors who use the checkout code VMESA10 will see a 10% discount on their tickets.
