Bashas’ stores opening early for senior shoppers every Wednesday

PHOENIX — A popular Arizona grocer is changing up its hours one day a week to help out older adults amid the spread of coronavirus.

Bashas’, Food City and AJ’s grocery stores will open Wednesdays from 5 a.m. to 6 a.m. for anyone at least 65 years of age.

In addition, Bashas’ reservation stores will be open from 6-7 a.m.

One caretaker, if needed, is welcome but is not allowed to shop for themselves, the store said in a press release.

Shoppers will need to show a valid I.D. at the door.

The stores’ purchase limitations will still be in effect.

The stores are the latest around the country to hold some sort of special hours for senior shoppers.

It’s the second adjustment to the Valley store’s hours in the last few days.

On Sunday, Bashas’ temporarily changed its regular hours, now opening from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.

The decision comes after President Donald Trump urged all older Americans to stay home and everyone to avoid crowds and eating out at restaurants.
