Suspect dead after standoff ends with shooting involving Queen Creek police

PHOENIX – A suspect is dead after a barricade situation ended early Tuesday with a shooting involving the Queen Creek Police Department, authorities said.

The incident began Monday night when Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a shooting near Sossaman Road and San Tan Boulevard, within a county island in Queen Creek.

The victim was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. Authorities are working to determine what led up to the initial shooting.

The suspect barricaded himself inside a home, the sheriff’s office said. The Queen Creek Police Department was also at the scene.

At some point during the standoff, Queen Creek officers shot at the man. He was then apprehended and taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The sheriff’s office said no deputies fired their weapons.

Authorities are expected to provide more details after further investigation.
