Rescue dog from Mesa receives one of the first Barkademy Awards

PHOENIX — A rescue dog from Mesa named Ginger was one of the first recipients of a Barkademy Award on Wednesday.

The Barkademy Awards were created this year by Bark TV in order to shine a spotlight on the cutest and most entertaining pooches around the country.

Ginger, a boxer who was rescued from a bad situation, was recognized as the cutest contestant.

“We started the Barkademy Award because of our audience,” Co-founder and Chief Commercial Officer of Triple B Media — operator of Bark TV — Brendan Canning said in a press release. “Everyone thinks that their dog is the best, rightfully so, and we thought this would be a cool way to celebrate our viewers’ dogs while making it a fun competition. The response was outstanding and all the winners are more than deserving.”

Who were the other dogs that received a Barkademy Award?

There were four other awards given to dogs from around the country, including:

• Best Trick which was awarded to a Labrador mix named Suki — from Hainesport, New Jersey — who can fetch a ball when its six feet under water.
• Bark of the Year which was given to a cockapoo from Fayetteville, Georgia named Charlie after his owner claimed he “whines and whines when I turn off Bark TV to go nite nite.”
• Twinning which was awarded to Bootsy — a pug from Albany, New York — whose apparently meld with his owner’s in pictures.
• Pup Culture which was give to a mini longhair Dachshund named Perro Caliente — from Newington, Connecticut —  who reportedly has a striking resemblance to Lin-Manuel Miranda in “Hamilton.”

The winners will be announced on Bark TV and the segment will be broadcast to millions of viewers.

In addition to the awards, Bark TV broadcast content from dog influencers, tips on how to care for dogs, teach them new tricks and share ideas to improve dogs enrichment and behavior.
