Banner Health identifies patient who was unable to communicate due to injury

PHOENIX — Banner Health has determined the identity of a patient who was unable to communicate after he was struck by a vehicle in Phoenix earlier this year.

The man, who was described as Hispanic and likely in his 20s, was hit by a car near 27th Avenue and Buckeye Road on Jan. 12 before being taken to Banner-University Medical Center Phoenix.

He sustained a brain injury and had no ID when he arrived at the hospital. He spent time on life support and was unable to identify himself.

On Wednesday, Banner Health asked the public to help identify him after the health care network and Phoenix Police Department exhausted the usual investigative methods.

The patient’s identity was confirmed the next day. His name was not made public due to privacy laws.

Banner Health expressed appreciation for everybody who provided tips.
