Avondale replenishes city fleet with 3 all-electric vehicles

PHOENIX – The city of Avondale this week rolled out its first all-electric vehicles to replenish its fleet.

The West Valley suburb added two Chevrolet Bolts and one Nissan Leaf to its pool of shared vehicles on Wednesday, according to a press release.

The cars have a range of more than 226 miles and are replacing gas-powered models at the end of their lifespan.

More of the environmentally friendly cars are on the way.

“The city will continue adding more electric vehicles to our fleet, phasing out older, less-efficient vehicles that run on fuel,” Hether Krause, manager of Avondale’s Environmental and Sustainability Program, said in the release.

The vehicles were introduced during the employee quarterly meeting, and Mayor Kenn Weise was among the first to get in the driver’s seat.

They will be housed at City Hall, where charging stations were recently installed.

“This is the wave of the future, and we’re excited to move ahead with the switch to these fully electric alternative fuel vehicles,” fleet supervisor Russ Dangel said in the release.
