PHOENIX — A man has been sentenced to 43 years in prison for murdering his girlfriend’s father over four years ago in Avondale, authorities said.
Terron Brown’s attack against the Lopez family in November 2021 left Ricardo Lopez Sr. dead, according to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office.
A jury convicted him of one count of second-degree murder, three counts of aggravated assault and two counts of unlawful discharge of a firearm.
What happened before man killed girlfriend’s father in Avondale?
Officers with the Avondale Police Department responded to several 911 calls reporting a shooting at a residence near 103rd Avenue and Indian School Road.
Investigators learned that Brown had been arguing with his girlfriend at her family home before the shooting.
During the argument, he took out his handgun, firing multiple rounds and killing Lopez. Brown also shot another family member, although this second victim survived.
Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell said Brown fled the Lopez family’ residence with his infant child in tow.
“No one should ever fear for their life inside the sanctuary of their home, yet that is exactly what this domestic abuser did,” Mitchell said in a Monday announcement.
Several hours after the shooting, police found Brown still with his child, carrying the handgun he used to kill Lopez.
“When conflicts escalate to gun violence, the consequences are irreversible,” Mitchell said. “Today’s sentence reflects the gravity of taking a life and our commitment to holding violent offenders fully accountable.”

He was not arrested hours later. Nor did he have a child OR gun with him when he was. Why are you lying?
A couple questions:
1. Why did it take 4 years for this case to be tried?
2. Why was this loser not given a life sentence? He was charged with murder and several other offenses. It should be a life for a life!! Why only 43 years? The article doesn't say how old the degenerate is. Perhaps 43 years amounts to a life sentence but what if it doesn't. He should die within the walls of a prison. That is JUSTICE!
