Authorities recover body of elderly man found in Chandler canal

PHOENIX — An investigation is underway to find out more about a body that was recovered in a canal near Chandler Boulevard and Cooper Road.

The Chandler Police Department had officers on the scene of the recovery after a passerby spotted the body and called police.

According to police, the body found was 85-year-old Samuel Contreras who went missing on Friday night.

A Silver Alert was issued for Contreras who was discovered missing from his nearby group home on Chandler Boulevard and Washington Street.

Water recovery assisted with the recovery and investigation.
