PHOENIX — A man who allegedly killed his wife five years ago in Phoenix was arrested Thursday in Mexico, federal law enforcement officials said.

The U.S. Marshals Service said 28-year-old Ismael Perez-Barra was found in Culiacan in the Mexican state of Sinaloa, nearly 800 miles from Phoenix. He is a U.S. citizen and was extradited on Friday.

Perez-Barra allegedly shot and killed his wife during a heated argument near 75th Avenue and Indian School Road.

Officials alleged that he fled the country to avoid criminal charges.

Authorities learned this month that Perez-Barra may be in Mexico. Marshals contacted Mexican law enforcement, who found and arrested him.
