PHOENIX — Arizona State University will welcome a record number of freshmen students for the fifth year in a row, the school announced Tuesday.

In a press release, ASU said about 11,500 were enrolled as the class of 2021 across four Valley campuses — Tempe, Polytechnic in Mesa, downtown Phoenix and the West Valley — and its location in Lake Havasu City.

Students moved into the dorms last weekend.

The west campus, located near 43rd Avenue and Thunderbird Road in Glendale, saw a 30 percent increase in freshmen.

The Polytechnic campus near Williams Field and Power roads in Mesa followed that with a 12 percent increase and downtown Phoenix had a 3 percent increase.

ASU said about 60 percent of incoming students were registered for online classes, which was another record.

The school said about 7,500 of the freshmen class were in-state students. On average, those students pay about $1,800 in tuition.

Classes were scheduled to begin Thursday.
