Arizona State University has reassigned an athletic trainer who worked with its hockey team, weeks after player Matthew Mayich collapsed during an outdoor workout and was placed on life support.
Assistant trainer Amanda Doyle has been moved to anothMer sport, and Maggie Corbett is now serving as the hockey team’s trainer, a university spokesperson told KTAR News 92.3 FM on Tuesday.
The Arizona Republic first reported the change and said Doyle helped oversee the Aug. 20 workout.
The spokesperson said trainers are employed by ASU’s student health services and “are reassigned regularly.”
The university did not say what led to the decision.
Mayich collapsed during the workout, which was led by a former Green Beret.
Seven of his teammates later submitted an anonymous 26-page report to ASU President Michael Crow, alleging safety policies were ignored.
Head coach Greg Powers was placed on paid administrative leave last week. ASU has also hired former Arizona Supreme Court Chief Justice Scott Bales to conduct an independent review of the workout.
KTAR News 92.3 FM’s Kellen Shover contributed to this report.
