ASU Gammage cancels ‘The Lion King’ due to coronavirus outbreak

PHOENIX — Disney’s “The Lion King” musical at ASU Gammage scheduled for over a three-week run in late spring has been canceled due to the coronavirus outbreak, the theater announced Monday.

“The health and safety of our patrons, artists and staff remains a top priority for ASU Gammage,” the theater said in the statement.

The show was scheduled to take place in Tempe from June 17 to July 12.

All those who purchased tickets will receive a refund to the original form of payment, the theater said.

A refund check will be sent via mail for those who bought tickets with cash, check or a gift certificate.

Disney’s “The Lion King” isn’t the first Broadway series show that ASU Gammage has had to cancel in order to combat the spread of COVID-19.

The Tempe theater previously canceled “Come From Away” which was scheduled to take place May 26-31.

However, “Mean Girls,” which was originally slated for April 21-26, has been rescheduled for Sept. 1-6.
